A manatee came ashore to feed on the grass in Port St Lucie, Florida, on July 9, as seen in this video recorded by Dan Scovern.

Scovern lives on the St. Lucie River close to the North Fork, St. Lucie River Aquatic Preserve. He told Storyful that he grows the grass high near the river’s edge so manatees can eat it.

North Fork, St. Lucie Aquatic Preserve supports a range of federally and state-protected wildlife, such as alligators, manatees, and different species of birds and fish. It has a freshwater system upstream and a brackish system; which consists of a mixture of river water and seawater near the St. Lucie Estuary. Manatees are unique in that they can move between freshwater and saltwater. Credit: Dan Scovern via Storyful
