A wildfire that sparked on July 17 erupted to a blaze of 36,000 acres near The Dalles, Oregon, by July 18, prompting residents to evacuate.

Evacuation orders were issued for the city of Moro and the Macks Canyon area on July 18. Other areas were previously issued level 3 evacuations.

About 75 households in Wasco County were also evacuated on July 17, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act for the fire, dubbed the Substation Fire, on July 18.

“To ensure the safety of local residents, and given the dry and windy conditions on the ground, I am invoking an emergency declaration to make additional state resources available to firefighters and first responders,” Brown said, according to the Oregonian.
