A controlled explosion was held on October 20 in an attempt to bring down two badly damaged cranes at the site of a partial collapse at the Hard Rock Hotel construction site in New Orleans.

The partial collapse of the building killed three workers and left more than 20 others injured on October 12.

NOLA.com reported that the explosives went off around 2.38 pm, and an evacuation perimeter in the area around the site remained in place on Sunday afternoon as the operation to dismantle the cranes continued. Credit: Dr. Maurice Sholas via Storyful
