The sound of an explosion woke residents around the Welsh town of Port Talbot early on April 26 after an incident at the Tata steelworks. The explosion and subsequent fire threw a cloud of smoke over the town.

Authorities at the plant later said that there were no fatalities and that two members of staff were slightly injured.

“There was a spillage of liquid iron while it was travelling to the steel plant,” Tata Steel Europe reported on Twitter. By 5.44 am they were reporting that the fire had been brought under control. Credit: Joshua Adams via Storyful
