Protesters rallied in the streets of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on February 27, the day the nation marks its independence from Haiti.

The protests began in the Dominican Republic after leaders suspended municipal elections on February 16 following the discovery that voting machines had been malfunctioning, according to reports from The New York Times.
