At least 15 people were killed and six went missing on October 19 following the collapse of a dam at a gold mine reservoir in the Krasnoyarsk region that caused the flooding of two dormitories occupied by workers, Russia’s emergencies ministry said.

The mine was located just outside the village of Schetinkino, which was evacuated due to the crisis, officials said.

Fourteen people were injured, including three seriously, according to Russia’s health ministry.

The emergencies ministry said more than 270 people were involved in search and rescue operations, which would continue into Sunday evening.

A day of mourning in Krasnoyarsk was declared for October 21, according to TASS news agency, citing the regional governor. Credit: EMERCOM via Storyful
