Snow Dumps on California's Sierra Mountains

Snow dumped on the Sierra Nevadas in California on Friday, March 16, prompting the closure of several major roadways. About two feet of snow had already fallen on some mountain locations, according to the National Weather Service.

Among the roads closed were I-80, which Caltrans said it hoped to reopen once the snow could be cleared from the roadway. Chains also were required on vehicles traveling on several roadways. Credit: Claire Brown via Storyful
