A swarm of locusts invaded residential areas of Jaipur on May 25, with one city resident capturing footage of the insects on a rooftop.

Akanksha Badaya captured the footage in question before posting it on Twitter. A May 25 report from The Hindu stated that while “locusts normally affect districts in western Rajasthan,” this time around, they had traveled “as far as Jaipur.”

The report added that, as there is “no standing crop on ground,” the locusts were “staying on large trees and moving fast.”

The Hindustan Times reported that there had been a locust invasion in the state of Rajasthan (of which Jaipur is the capital) on May 7.

The locust issue is persisting in the region, with June 1 report from the same publication noting that a “drone was used to spray pesticide and kill locusts in Jaipur district,” over the weekend of May 30 and 31, after the “voracious, crop-munching pests settled on a hilly road that was inaccessible to tractor-mounted sprayers.” Credit: Akanksha Badaya via Storyful
