Snow dumped on the Sierra Nevadas in California on Friday, March 16, prompting one Truckee resident to use heavy equipment to clear the deep snow. The National Weather Service reported roughly 20 inches had fallen in the area over a 24-hour period.

Roads were closed due to heavy snow and dangerous driving conditions. Among the roads closed were I-80, which Caltrans said it hoped to reopen once the snow could be cleared from the roadway. Chains also were required on vehicles traveling on several roadways. Credit: Dave Westall via Storyful
