Firefighters from the Alameda County Fire Department joined emergency efforts overnight on Sunday, September 27, as the rapidly growing Glass Fire spread to 11,000 acres and remained at zero percent containment.

The fire, the cause of which remained under investigation, began at around 6 am on Sunday morning and prompted evacuations.

In an update on Monday, Cal Fire said two additional fires started overnight and merged with the Glass Fire, adding that firefighters faced “strong and gusty offshore winds, low humidity, and dry fuels” as they continued their efforts to contain the fire on Monday.

“The fire has been at a dangerous rate of spread and has expanded into Sonoma County,” Cal Fire said.
