Ash from Tonga Volcano Creates Stunning Sunset Over Western Australia

Timelapse footage shows a stunning sunset over Western Australia as an ash cloud from the Tonga volcanic eruption moved overhead on January 17.

Jucer Marinas recorded this footage in Broome, Western Australia, and originally posted it to Facebook.

The Bureau of Meteorology, Western Australia, reported the ash cloud was slowly moving “westwards over the Pilbara and Gascoyne creating some stunning sunsets and sunrises recently as the ash and aerosols scatter the sun’s rays.”

The Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano erupted on Saturday evening, January 15, triggering tsunami waves up to 15 meters, according to information released by the Tongan government.
