Bushland on Bribie Island, Queensland, was left scorched after a fire raged through the area on August 21 and 22.

On August 25, firefighters continued work on extinguishing the blaze which caused the evacuation of campsites on the island, local media reported.

A number of animals also died attempting to escape the blaze, media said.

A spokesperson for the Department of Environment and Science (DES) said the cause of the fire would be investigated. However, the Courier Mail said the fire may have been a controlled burn “gone wrong.” Credit: Ellen Thompson via Storyful
