Cars were set on fire in Paris on November 28 as thousands took the streets to protest a new law that would restrict sharing photos or video footage of police officers on duty.

The controversial elements of the new security legislation would make it a crime to publish photos or video footage of police officers on duty with intent to harm their “physical or psychological integrity.”

The nationwide protests on Saturday came after footage showing officers beating a black man went viral in France. President Emmanuel Macron condemned the footage on Friday and called it an “unacceptable attack.”
