Concerned citizens rescued a kitten trapped under a car’s hood in Phoenix, Arizona, after they heard meowing coming from the vehicle.

The kitten’s cries can be heard in video filmed by Stanley Roberts, which shows Roberts and others, including the vehicle’s owner, attempting to find where the cat had gotten to.

Roberts told Storyful he heard the creature meowing from a block away and tracked down the owner. After it was removed from the car, one of the people helping immediately adopted the kitten, which was named Toyota in honor of its awkward hiding place.

Roberts said, “Cats are killed or injured every year from climbing into engine compartments to stay warm. Before you start your car bang on it to make sure no animals are hiding inside.” Credit: Stanley Roberts via Storyful
