Thousands of pro-Catalan demonstrators took to the streets and occupied an airport near Barcelona on Monday, October 14, to express their anger at the decision by Spain’s supreme court to sentence separatist leaders to several years in prison.

Protesters began blocking traffic, with thousands then heading for the El Prat airport on the outskirts of Barcelona, clashing with police and disrupting flights.

Here, a large crowd is seen heading for Terminal 1 of the airport, where protests continued for several hours.
