A Melbourne-bound flight from Sydney on November 12 flew through a smoky haze above the New South Wales capital as the effects of emergency-level bushfires in the region continued.

A smoky haze descended on Sydney on November 12, with officials describing the fire situation in New South Wales as catastrophic.

As of November 13, 74 fires were still reported to be burning across the state, 50 of which were not contained.

Melbourne resident Marine Piersotte captured this footage while on an evening Jetstar flight home from Sydney. She told Storyful, “At the airport, the whole sky was smoky and slightly orange, it was hard to [see] planes in the distance. It looked like the apocalypse.” She added, “once we flew above the smoke clouds, the sky was bright blue.” Credit: Marine Piersotte via Storyful
