After their team survived a scare against Argentina at the Rugby World Cup, winning their opening game 23-21 on September 21, French fans were in jubilant mood as they took the metro from the stadium.

Arnaud Thouvery is in Japan following les bleus and he recorded fans on the subway train doing an authentically French “paquito”. The paquito is a southern French festive feature in which participants sit in a line on the ground, moving to the music. One reveler is then passed along the line, crowd surfing style.

In this video, the surfer wears blue-and-white striped trousers, inspiring the crowd to chant the name of a famous wearer of such garb: “Obelix! Obelix!”

Thouvery told Storyful he and the group seen in the video are from Antibes rugby club, in the southwest of France. Credit: Arnaud Thouvery via Storyful
