A grain elevator collapsed in Luther, Iowa, on August 10 after severe windstorms swept through the area, causing widespread damage and power outages. According to reports, Boone County was one of several areas under a “travel not advised” alert.

According to local reports, Boone County, where Luther is located, and cities including Ankeny, Johnston, Marshalltown, and Perry were under the travel advisement alert.

Portions of Iowa saw wind speeds topping 100 mph on Monday, and the National Weather Service reported nearly 420,000 customers without power at 2.25 pm. “Many communities have significant tree/structural damage. Travel is impassable in some areas. Please stay home and shelter in place so emergency workers can work to restore power,” the NWS said. Credit: @MONASTiCNiCK via Storyful
