Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said the Ukrainian capital is “ready” to defend itself in the event of a Russian military attack.

In an interview with Current Time, Klitschko said bomb shelters were ready to accommodate people if an attack should take place, and authorities were ensuring the good condition of critical infrastructure.

The Kyiv subway has been identified as the key bomb shelter in the event of “zero hour,” Klitschko said, and efforts were underway to ensure heat, electricity, and water supplies would not stop “for a second.”

The mayor said volunteer defense brigades were being set up, where those with a military background could sign up, if necessary, to protect the city. Credit: Current Time via Storyful
