Ontario Freediver Escapes the Ice Using an Axe

Expert freediver Egor Nesterenko of Toronto, Ontario, can be seen here putting his underwater survival skills to the test. Nesterenko uses an axe to break through an icy surface, with two friends filming his feat both above and below the surface.

Nesterenko told Storyful that with “a single breath of air” he broke through the ice in Ontario’s Georgian Bay. Nesterenko said he had to keep his “composure to preserve oxygen while axing away at the ice above.”
