London’s Metropolitan Police issued more than £15,000 in fines on January 24 after finding an illegal rave attended by around 300 people in Hackney.

Under the lockdown in England, people may only leave home for “necessary” reasons, such as to go to work, buy essentials, and exercise.

Police said organisers of the rave, which took place in a railway arch, used padlocks to prevent officers from entering. Fines of £200 were issued to 78 people for “attending an illegal gathering”.

This footage shows officers entering the building and confronting those inside.

Det Chief Supt Marcus Barnett said: “This event was organised in advance and each one of the 300 people who chose to turn up did so knowing they were putting themselves, their loved ones and the wider community at risk.” Credit: Metropolitan Police via Storyful
