Buildings and storefronts in downtown Beirut were extensively damaged after a massive explosion August 4, with Gov of Beirut Marwan Abboud telling AFP that more than half the city was damaged by the blast.

Local resident Oliver Zeitoun said he was in a Porsche showroom just over a mile away from the blast site when the explosion occurred. He captured this footage of the auto showroom storefront, showing shattered glass as well as vehicles and people covered in dust on the street. The damaged entrance of the nearby Four Seasons Hotel can also be seen.

Toward the end of the clip, the camera captures a plume of smoke rising from the port area.

Zeitoun told Storyful he “was lucky to be in the corner of the showroom inside.” He also posted a number of photos which he said show the damage sustained to his home on the 26th floor of Beirut Tower.

Lebanese Interior Minister Mohammed Fahmi told local media the explosion appeared to have been caused by the detonation of more than 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate stored at a portside warehouse.

Lebanon’s Health Minister said around 135 were killed, 5,000 were injured, and dozens remained missing on Wednesday afternoon, The Daily Star Lebanon reported. Credit: Oliver Zeitoun via Storyful
