A protester caught fire before being extinguished by fellow demonstrators during a night of violent unrest on the Hong Kong streets on November 18.

Police stormed the campus of Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the early morning after an overnight standoff with protesters barricaded in the building.

Several hundred demonstrators held out in the campus despite being told to leave on Sunday, according to reports.

Police fired tear gas and water cannons in an attempt to disrupt protesters, who have occupied the facility for days. Authorities were in turn targeted with fire bombs in many of the confrontations.

Separate groups of demonstrators disrupted traffic on some of the city’s main roads, a possible attempt to distract police from the Polytechnic clashes, according to reports.
