A rodent in Alsip, Illinois, somehow made its way into the pre-packaged cheese section of a Food 4 Less, according to footage posted to YouTube on October 9.

Christopher Allison was making a late night grocery run when he noticed the small animal.

The video shows the critter, most likely a rat or a mouse, trying to eat through the plastic wrapping to get to the cheese. Allison had a relatively light-hearted reaction to the incident, and can be heard saying, “That rat knows what it’s getting into… he’s ignoring me, you know he’s hungry,” while remaining calm.

However, John Ryan, the mayor of Alsip, did not have the same reaction. A post on the Village of Aslip Facebook page stated that Ryan and other officials involved have made sure that, “the original products were destroyed, the display was sanitized, pest control was dispatched and the pest control log book was up to date and reflected 2 visits this week to address the vermin issue” in the supermarket. I worked in a grocery store in the mid 60s. We had rats that weighed over 2 pounds. They were all over the warehouse and meat coolers. So if you think this is unusual, you are kidding yourself.

Late one evening, we once saw a mouse nibbling a pasty in an English bakers shop window.

    A mouse eating cheese. OMG!
Show me a mouse eating a stainless steel bolt, then I'll be impressed.

Maybe the rat was just trying to take advantage of lower priced cheese. Wonder how many local shoppers will be willing to buy their food at this store in the future.

Things like this happen a lot. Warehouse doors are propped open for a minute and critters dash in. Its what they do. Just recently I was in a store and got a whiff of a decomposing rodent. The smell was unmistakable.

lmao, I tell you one thing's for certain... That ain't no mouse. The average mouse is less than 1 ounce. If anything that's a rat....
