Japanese and foreign rugby fans chanted “shoes off if you love Japan” with their footwear held in the air after the national side’s landmark victory over Scotland on October 13.

Paddy Tarbuck, who shared the footage, posted on Twitter that it was “such a privilege to be in Japan last night” as the country recovered from the aftermath of Typhoon Hagibis.

The singing, in a crowded Yokohama rugby bar, follows similar scenes on October 3, when Irish fans took part in the routine in Kobe.

Tarbuck told Storyful that fans started the chant in Kobe and the “unbelievable” game against Scotland justified a repeat performance.

“The locals all loved it. It’s just a bit of a play on the fact you have to take your shoes off all around Japan,” he said.
