Smoke Billows From Durban Oil Refinery After Fire Breaks Out

Seven people were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at the Engen crude oil refinery in Durban, South Africa, on December 4.

This footage, posted to Twitter, shows black smoke and flames rising from the fire as seen from a nearby residential building.

In a statement to Storyful, Engen confirmed the fire broke out at shortly after 7 am and was extinguished by 8:45 am.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, the company said.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government said it dispatched emergency teams to the site, including disaster teams, environmental management specialists and teams responsible for air quality.
