Tensions ran high in Barcelona on Monday, October 14, as thousands of pro-Catalan demonstrators took to the streets and occupied an airport, over the decision by Spain’s supreme court to sentence separatist leaders to several years in prison.

Here, as reported by local news, one girl who was brandishing a Spanish flag scuffled with a man on the Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona, with many bystanders getting involved to break up the fracas.

Earlier, pro-Catalan protesters began blocking traffic, with thousands then heading for the El Prat airport on the outskirts of Barcelona, clashing with police and disrupting flights.
