Traffic Snarled After Two-Vehicle Collision Causes Injuries in Manhattan

Streets were closed and buses rerouted after a traffic collision at the corner of East 50th Street and 2nd Avenue in New York City left several people injured on Friday morning, March 5.

Footage taken near the scene shows traffic congestion and sirens blaring a few blocks away on 2nd Avenue and 53rd Street.

According to police, a van driving south on 2nd Avenue hit a black Toyota Camry between 50th and 51st streets at around 8.30 am, sending the Camry into an outdoor dining structure located at 945 2nd Avenue, NY1 reported.

Police told local media the van continued onto the sidewalk down to 49th Street and 2nd Avenue, where it hit a fruit stand and three more pedestrians before slamming into a light pole. Reports said the driver of the van was taken into custody and is suspected of DWI.
