Animation Shows Development of Supermoon

An animation created by a former NASA planetary scientist demonstrated the development of a supermoon, seen from across the globe in early April.

Dr James O’Donoghue shared a CGI animation using NASA imagery to show the supermoon reaching its largest, brightest position over several days.

The moon orbits Earth on an oval-shaped axis that brings it closer to and farther from Earth as it goes around, NASA explained. A supermoon is formed when the moon is at its closest proximity to Earth, making it slightly brighter and larger than a regular full moon. Credit: Dr James O’Donoghue via Storyful
