The Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium, in Auckland, has recently introduced its newest addition to the public – an adorable six-week-old penguin chick.

The aquarium has now launched a competition to name the king penguin chick, which hatched on Valentine’s Day.

“The fluffy little chick spent the first month of its life with its head tucked under dad Loaf’s tummy, but has recently started venturing out and standing up in front,” said Laura Seaman, a team leader at the aquarium.

The aquarium runs the only king penguin breeding program in New Zealand. The species is “under threat from overfishing, invasive species and climate change,” they said. Credit: Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium via Storyful
