A strong earthquake, of 5.3 magnitude, was felt in Athens on July 19, shaking buildings and knocking out power in parts of the city.

The quake had its epicenter around 22 kilometers north of Athens and was followed by several aftershocks.

Kathimerini said two old buildings in the city collapsed, while others were damaged. There were reports of some light injuries.

Asra Nomani, an author and former Georgetown University professor, was attending an art event in Athens when the building hosting it was evacuated.

The event, Art: Key to Conflict Resolution, was being held in the Serafeio community complex in the city. Posting this footage on Twitter, Nomani said she could see cracks in the walls of the building. Credit: Asra Nomani via Storyful
