Coast Guard Medevacs Fisherman Struck by Stingray Barb Off Long Island

The US Coast Guard medevaced a man from a fishing boat off Long Island, New York, after he was struck by a stingray barb on September 19.

The seaman was onboard the Shelby Ann, a fishing vessel based in Rhode Island. On Sunday, the Coast Guard received an alert from the boat saying the injured man was “showing signs of shock” after he was stuck below the knee.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched to the ship, which was located roughly 40 miles southwest of Montauk, New York. The injured man was brought to a hospital in Rhode Island and was in stable condition, according to the Coast Guard. Credit: US Coast Guard via Storyful
