Dozens of people were injured and hundreds of cars wrecked in a large-scale collision that shut down Highway 15 at La Prairie, Montreal, Quebec, on February 19.

Two people were reported to have died in the crash and 90 others were injured, while more than 100 cars and about a dozen trucks were damaged, local media citing authorities said.

Around 150 emergency services workers attended the scene and some victims had to be cut from their cars.

The mass collision was likely triggered by a sudden whiteout, caused by blowing snow that limited visibility, Quebec’s Transport Minister François Bonnardel said, according to reports.
