Dragonfly Lays Eggs in Scotland's Kyle of Sutherland

A dragonfly was spotted laying eggs in the Kyle of Sutherland — an estuary that snakes through the Scottish Highlands.

This footage shot by George Thorpe shows the dragonfly repeatedly plunging its tail-end into the waters of the kyle and whipping it out again swiftly.

This normally occurs shortly after mating, when the female dragonfly is escorted to the nearest water source by her partner. It is highly unusual for a male dragonfly to not be present during the egg-laying. Credit: George Thorpe via Storyful
