Ex-Chelsea Keeper Cech Is Penalty-Saving Hero in Ice Hockey Debut

4 年前

Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech debuted in style for ice hockey side Guildford Phoenix on October 13, making match-winning penalty saves in a Man of the Match performance.

The game ended 2-2, and after a scoreless overtime, a penalty shootout followed, giving Cech the ideal chance to star.

So it proved as Cech, 37, saved Swindon Wildcats 2’s first and last penalties during a nail-biting shootout to ensure the win for his new team.

Cech remains a technical and performance adviser with Chelsea, with whom he won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the Champions League. He also won the FA Cup with Arsenal.

Guildford Phoenix announced Cech’s signing as a semi-pro net minder on October 9. Cech said he was “delighted” at the opportunity to “play the game I loved to watch and play as a kid.” Credit: @bloooo26 via Storyful
