Firefighters with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) applauded health care workers outside New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan on April 1 as the city battled a growing number of coronavirus cases.

This video, filmed by Frank Salzone, shows a crowd of FDNY firefighters clapping for a group of medics standing on the steps of New York-Presbyterian in New York City.

“Selfless heroism is at the heart of every first responder,” New York-Presbyterian said on Twitter in response to the event.

New York City officials have enacted additional measures to help lessen the spread of COVID-19, including closing playgrounds, along with most businesses, and extending the stay-at-home order until at least April 15.

There have been at least 83,712 coronavirus cases in New York State as of April 1, with 47,439 concentrated in New York City, according to the New York State Department of Health. Credit: Frank Salzone via Storyful
