Forest Fire Breaks Out Near Inca Ruins in Machu Picchu

A forest fire that broke out in Machu Picchu, Peru, on June 28, put an ancient Inca archeological site at risk, according to the government.

Photographs released by the Peruvian Culture Ministry on June 29 show firefighters working to tackle the blaze, which burned 99 acres (40 hectares), according to El Comercio.
