Helicopters and planes dropped water and flame retardant on Coconino National Forest on Monday, July 22, as a wildfire dubbed the Museum Fire spread rapidly through the forest and encroached on Flagstaff, Arizona, officials said.

The blaze, which officials said spread quickly overnight, was estimated on Monday to have consumed 1,000 acres. More than a dozen aircraft worked on Sunday and Monday to limit the fire’s spread, officials said.

While no evacuations were declared on Monday, Coconino County published a list of areas where residents should be prepared to evacuate with “necessary supplies for at least 72 hours” in the event of the fire’s spread. National Forest officials reported the fire one mile north of Flagstaff.
