Jalalabad Residents Cheer for Afghan Forces Who Put Down Prison Attack

Afghan National Security Forces cleared the Jalalabad prison and surrounding area of attackers on August 3, following an assault claimed by IS which killed at least 29 people, according to Fawad Aman, a spokesman for Afghanistan Ministry of Defense.

Aman said militants attacked the prison, other buildings, and civilians in the area on Sunday, and 10 terrorists were killed in the clearing operation on Monday.

TOLO News reported a vehicle laden with explosives was detonated at the prison gate on August 2. At least 29 people were killed and 43 were injured in the attack, and approximately 700 inmates escaped during the attack, the report said.
