Protesters gathered on the streets of Beirut for the sixth day on October 22, as demonstrators called a general strike over the Lebanese government’s handling of an economic crisis.

The Daily Star reported that protesters gathered in central squares of cities across Lebanon on Tuesday, even after the country’s government approved a package of economic reforms that included a 50 percent reduction in salaries for former and current politicians and ministers and the establishment of an anti-corruption panel.

The protests began over proposed economic reforms that included a tax on calls made via WhatsApp and other apps, which the government quickly scrapped.
