Omaha Police Horse Put Out to Pasture at Low-Key Retirement Party

Cruiser, a mounted patrol horse with the Omaha Police Department, retired after 10 years serving his Nebraska community and was literally put out to pasture in a low-key party at the farm he came from on Tuesday, April 21.

The video shows the horse being served some cake atop a bale of hay. He tries the cake, then opts for the hay, overturning the treat in the process. “Enjoying the hay, not so much the cake,” the caption on the Omaha Mounted Foundation Facebook page said.

According to the foundation, Cruiser was responsible for officer rider certification and he participated in events across the city.

He will live out the rest of his days on a farm in Iowa.

“He especially enjoyed schools and children’s tours, where he was our go-to guy! Cruiser was able to return to his home from which he was donated in western Iowa. He will be enjoyed by grandchildren and great-grandchildren for years to come,” the foundation said on Facebook. Credit: Omaha Mounted Foundation via Storyful
