'We Can Only Leave Via Snowmobile': 26 Inches of Snow Limits Travel in North Dakota

A blizzard warning was issued for parts of North Dakota by the National Weather Service (NWS) on Monday, December 30, as gusty winds and heavy snowfall continued to impact the region.

The NWS of Bismarck forecast “blowing and significant drifting snow” as wind gusts were predicted to reach up to 45 mph on Monday afternoon. The North Dakota Highway Patrol said snow drifts forced the closure of several roadways in the region.

This video, taken by Amie Schmeichel, shows heavy snow accumulating outside a home in Jamestown. The beginning of the footage, taken on Sunday, shows the winter landscape as two dogs frolic through a snowdrift. The video goes on to show a large wall of snow outside the house on Monday morning.

Schmeichel told Storyful she was snowed in, adding “we can only leave via snowmobile.” The weather service reported 26 inches of snow in Jamestown as of Monday morning. Credit: @amie.alison via Storyful
