The Pan-African flag was raised outside of City Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, June 16, ahead of the announcement that Juneteenth would be designated a federal holiday.

Juneteenth, observed on June 19, celebrates the abolition of slavery and emancipation of enslaved African Americans. US President Joe Biden signed a bill on Thursday to officially make Juneteenth a federal holiday.
