The Pine Gulch fire, burning near Grand Junction, Colorado, grew to nearly 24,000 acres as of Sunday, August 9, forcing further evacuations in communities near the blaze.

According to reports from The Denver Post, the lightning-sparked fire, which started on July 31, has been fueled by dry conditions, gusty wind and low humidity. The fire was at 7 percent containment on Sunday, and was burning in sleep stopes and rough terrain, making firefighting efforts difficult, the report said.
