Police in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, helped rescue a 14-year-old girl on Tuesday, June 30, after she was swept down a flooded creek while trying to help a boy who fell in.

Five Mount Juliet police officers and three firefighters responded to reports of a child in the flooded Cedar Creek off Pisano Street, Mount Juliet, around 4:30 pm Tuesday, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found 14-year-old Courtney Lloyd in distress, holding onto a thin tree branch as water rushed around her.

Bodycam footage released by the Mount Juliet Police Department shows one officer put on a personal flotation device and enter the water. The clip shows the officer wade out to the teenage girl before the pair were pulled by other officers back to shore with a rescue throw rope.

Firefighters then hoisted the girl up an embankment and to safety.

Lloyd told responders that she jumped into the creek to rescue an 11-year-old boy who slipped into the water. The boy was able to get out of the water, but Lloyd was swept away.

Police said Lloyd will be nominated for a life-saver award for her actions. Credit: Mount Juliet Police Department via Storyful
