Police hit protesters with batons at El Prat Airport in Barcelona on October 14, during demonstrations against a Spanish supreme court decision to jail separatist leaders.

Thousands of pro-Catalan demonstrators marched on Barcelona’s El Prat Airport on Monday, October 14, objecting to the Spanish Supreme Court’s decision to sentence separatist leaders to several years in prison, reports said.

Protesters on foot blocked traffic on a highway leading to the airport and disrupted airport service, including delaying and canceling flights, reports said.

Barcelona’s police force, the Mossos, and officers from the National Police confronted protesters inside the airport, hitting people with batons, launching tear gas, and making arrests, according to local reports.
