While paddleboarding in Cronulla, a suburb of Sydney, Australia, beachgoer Ben Denning came to the rescue of a shark in distress.

Denning said he heard a noise coming from a rock pool on Oak Park Beach. Seeing a Port Jackson shark stuck in the rock bed, Denning grabbed the animal and released it back into the ocean a short distance away.

Denning described the shark as “pregnant,” and according to the BBC, the animal was found during the Port Jackson shark mating season.

Expressing his shock that the video had garnered so much interest, Denning commented, “can’t believe it made the news. That thing was a big floppy puppy dog,” in the video uploaded to Instagram on September 15. Credit: Ben Denning via Storyful
