Protests Held Across Poland Against Judicial Reforms

Protests were held across Poland on December 18 against a proposal that would allow judges to be dismissed by the government.

Protesters said that the legislation would end the independence of the judiciary and might breach EU law. The Polish Supreme Court argued that the reforms could even threaten the country’s membership of the EU.
