The New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) issued an emergency warning for a bushfire at Drake, on Monday, September 16.

The fire, which had burned through over 57,800 hectares of bushland, escalated on Monday afternoon.

“There is increased fire activity on the northern side of the fire around the township of Drake, Red Rock Road and Rover Park,” the NSW RFS said in an alert.

“Residents in the areas of Drake, Red Rock Road and Rover Park should take shelter as the fire approaches. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire.”

This aerial footage shows the fire burning through bushland.

“Firefighters on the ground, assisted by the Large Air Tanker, are working to slow the progress of the fire on the northern edge,” the RFS said. Credit: New South Wales Rural Fire Service via Storyful
