Signs encouraging commuters to maintain social distancing have appeared on Sydney’s public transport network as the city prepared for crowds to return to work amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

New South Wales buses, trains and ferries were equipped with green stickers to indicate the only places where commuters were allowed to sit. The state government said school children were to be given priority on public transport as schools returned full-time on May 25.

Commuters were also encouraged not to travel during peak travel periods as part of social distancing guidelines.

There were three new cases of COVID-19 in New South Wales on May 25, bringing the state’s total to 3,090 according to state health authorities. A new case was discovered on May 26 at a high school in Sydney’s east, prompting the school to send students home. Credit: jinny.hong via Storyful
